The most famous Illinoisan of all time is former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. He led the country through the Civil War, kept the Union together, and abolished slavery in the process.
When visiting Illinois, you should definitely try Chicago-style pizza and hot dogs, as well as a jibarito. A jibarito is a filled sandwich where the bread is replaced with fried plantain.
