Nevada has become very familiar to us as California’s neighboring state. We’ve spent several holidays there, both up north around Lake Tahoe and down south in Las Vegas. We’ve also driven through the state along the “America’s Loneliest Road”.
Nevada is mostly desert and mountains, which really shapes its climate. Summers are extremely hot and dry, while winter can bring freezing nights or even snow. When it does rain, it can quickly lead to flash floods.
If you’re road-tripping through Nevada, it’s smart to fill up your gas tank whenever you can and keep water and snacks with you as the distances between stops can be long. Along the way, you might sport rare Joshua tree or even wild horses roaming the landscape.
Nevada is, of course, best known for the bright lights of Las Vegas, but there’s so much more to see. Highlights include Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire State Park, and national parks like Great Basin and Death Valley. The historic mining town of Virginia City is also well worth a visit.
Nevada shares its borders with California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, and Idaho.
