Best pumpkin patches in the SF Bay Area are easy to find and there are plenty to choose from. Here are our absolute favourites.

Ever since we had kids, we have become a huge fans of visiting pumpkin patches in October. It became our family tradition to drive over to California’s famous Pacific Coast Highway to get pumpkins and enjoy a day at a beach. Then we slowly started to explore also other areas in San Francisco Bay Area.

We love the old farm atmosphere and will always choose these old fashioned pumpkin patches over the ones with bumpy houses and ponies. There is just something about the hay pyramids and corn mazes that the inflatable toys can’t beat.

Also, I always like to buy more than just traditional pumpkins for carving. I usually get small decorative pumpkins, and some butternut squash and spagetti squash for us to eat.

We have couple nice smaller pumpkin patches closer to where we live, and we often go there after school just to play. If you are visiting California in October, make sure to visit a pumpkin patch to get into a harvest time spirit.

Best Pumpkin Patches in the SF Bay Area to Visit

Bob’s Vegetable Stand and Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay

This has been our favorite pumpkin patch for years now. There are many pumpkin patches in Half Moon Bay, but if you drive little further on Pacific Coast Highway, you will come to Bob’s Pumpkin Farm. It is less crowded than the ones along the 92, and they have many different kinds of pumpkins to offer.

Some of the pumpkins are still attached to ground since this is the actual pumpkin field. So be prepared to get a little dirty while finding your right pumpkin.

We have taken several family pictures by the old, rusty truck parked in the middle of the patch. They also have a hay pyramid and a picnic area. Our kids favorite part is visiting the section with farm animals. We just love this place!

Half Moon Bay also hosts a Pumpkin Festival in October. It is a great event and we used to go every year until it started to get too crowded. If you don’t mind sitting in a traffic to get there, definitely check out the festival as well. Otherwise, pick some other weekend for going to Half Moon Bay.

Rodoni Farms in Santa Cruz

Couple of years ago we decided to try something else since the small road to Half Moon Bay has a lot of traffic during weekends and and it takes a long time to get there from our house. Instead, we drove down to Santa Cruz and visited Rodoni Farms Pumpkin Patch.

It was a really a nice place with a lot of different kinds of pumpkins, and everything was organic! Also this farm was so big that it didn’t feel crowded even with a lot of people there.

They had many things for kids; some old tubes to crawl into, hay bales here and there and photo spots with scary cutouts. But the best part was definitely the huge corn maze they had.

It was my first time doing the corn maze and it was so much fun! We loved getting lost in it!

Visiting the pumpkin patch is free, but they did charge $5 per person for the maze. Our toddler was free.

Dig Deep Farms (former J.E. Perry Farm) in Fremont

This farm is really close to us and we have been going here for years, already when it was operating as J.E. Perry Farm pumpkin patch. It shares a parking lot with Ardenwood Historic Farm which is a regional park.

Dig Deep Farms pumpkin patch is not huge but they do have some games, pumpkin carving and crafts for kids. They also sell some food and drinks. The pumpkin patch is open from October 11th to 26th on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am. to 4 pm. They do charge an entrance fee to get in which is $5 for everyone over 12 years old and $2 for kids under 12.

You can also visit Ardenwood Farm on a same day if you want to spend more time outdoors. They have many farm animals, picnic areas and program for kids throughout the day. It is separate from the pumpkin patch and they do have their own entrance fee.

Joan’s Farm & Pumpkin Patch in Livermore

We have visited Joan’s Farm & Pumpkin Patch several times, and it has always been fun. It is located in Livermore countryside and is an actual farm. Among picking up pumpkins kids will also see some farm animals which is nice.

This pumpkin patch is relatively big and has all kinds of things for entertainment. We usually play in the play area, walk around in Old West Town, check out the animals and do the maze before getting our pumpkins.

They also have some huge bounce houses, slides and games for a fee. A little train takes kids for a ride around the area.

Joan’s Farm is right by the Livermore Wine Country so if you like wine, you can stop by at one of the great wineries close by. We love it because it is less crowded and a lot cheaper than Napa Valley.

G&M Farms Pumpkin Patch in Livermore

Another great pumpkin patch in Livermore is the G&M Farms. They have so much to do for kids that you can easily spend a whole day there.

Our favourites were their huge corn maze and a corn pool. I have never seen such a pool anywhere else and it was actually hard to get our little one out from it. And yes, it did look like a lot of fun!

The corn maze was pretty big too and we got lost quite a few times there. Some trivia questions were placed around the maze to give guests some how to navigate out of there.

They also host a haunted corn maze in couple of evenings before Halloween. Would you be up for a corn maze in the dark with some ghosts?

Other attractions were tractor rides, cow train, pony rides, pedal cars and jump pillows. For all these and for the corn maze there is a fee, but they also have plenty of things to do for free. For example the corn pool, hay maze and the petting zoo had no fee.

 Spina Farms Pumpkin Patch

If you’re looking for something more than just an old-fashioned pumpkin patch, then Spina Farms Pumpkin Patch is a guaranteed hit with the kids. The theme is dinosaurs, and the farm is beautifully decorated with marigolds. I’d say that this is, hands down, the coolest pumpkin patch in the Bay Area.

Entrance to the farm is free but you’ll need to purchase tickets for the rides if you plan to enjoy some. They offer several train rides, a hayride, a corn maze and some other attractions. One of the most popular activities is the Pumpkin Blasters, where you can shoot small pumpkins out into a field. Some activities, like hay maze and various photo ops, are free.

There are multiple food options, along with treats and coffee, and everything is extremely well organized.

Spina Farms Pumpkin Patch is located in Morgan Hill, just south of San Jose. I recommend going early, and if possible, during the week, as it does get very crowded on the weekends. Weekend parking is $25.
